Julie Stephens Designs was born out of my love for crafting and making beautiful things. Since I was a child, I’ve loved to draw, paint, sew and create.
While pursuing my career in Public Relations, I discovered the art of beadwork, which led me to the wonderful world of jewellery-making. My jewellery has evolved after quite a few years of practice and learning various jewellery-related techniques that interested me. Over the past few years, I’ve attended many workshops and short courses in beadwork, wirework, metalsmithing and lost wax casting. When I discovered precious metal clay, a sustainable, recycled material, I had found my thing!
Thanks to the New York Institute of Art & Design, I completed a Jewellery Design course that helped to bring all of these different skills and ideas into my work.
Creating lasting memories
I love that jewellery can have lasting meaning that helps to create memories that live beyond the moment. It can signify time and place. It can remind us of the occasion when a special piece was worn or when it was acquired, or of the emotion attached to giving a unique gift to someone special.
My purpose is to create quality pieces that resonate with the wearer and that can be worn every day with minimal simplicity or for special occasions.
I grew up in Brisbane, Queensland, and spent many happy times with my family on the Gold Coast, loving the beach and the lifestyle. I’ve also been lucky enough to travel overseas on several occasions. These wonderful, exotic cultures, many with beautiful beaches, have inspired me to create. Now living in Melbourne, Victoria, I’ve channelled my love of making into my passion for creating beautiful jewellery. I design and handcraft each piece using semi-precious stones and beads, wire and fine or sterling silver, with some pieces plated in 22kt gold.
My jewellery features a relaxed, coastal aesthetic. I hope you find it beautiful, glam and a little bit boho luxe, and enjoy wearing your Julie Stephens jewellery.
